COMMON GOOD AT ADVANCE GLOBAL 2024
What is the role of the local church in addressing injustice?
All across the scriptures we read of a God who has deep concern and care for those on the margins: the poor, the widow, the orphan and the foreigner. The people who follow this God are empowered by him to be ever increasingly demonstrating his heart for the vulnerable.
The church is not a bystander to the injustice in the world, but called to be an active part in addressing it, preventing it and journeying with those impacted by it. And this is ultimately a hope-filled idea: where else, but the church, could you have victims, bystanders and perpetrators of injustice together find the healing they need? This is the church, shining brightly on a hill, demonstrating the radical love that Jesus has for the poor, the downtrodden, the sidelined.

The word “justice” can mean many things to different people. We are committed to making scripture the loudest voice in guiding our worldview, our posture, our presence, our voice and our actions.

SO WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE LOCAL CHURCH IN ADDRESSING INJUSTICE?
At Common Good, we see the local church – both gathered and sent-out - as agents of God’s healing and restoration.
You, in your local context can:
- Disciple congregants to have a biblical response to injustice
- Leverage your collective strengths to impact your neighbourhood
- Partner with others to address issues beyond your capacity

In 2006, Common Ground started Common Good with a deep conviction that the church can accomplish something for the good of our nation and the glory of God. From a place of serving the church to respond to our city’s social issues, we have grown to be a non-profit organization that seeks to address some of the giants of injustice facing our nation: Early Life, Education and Employment. We are both a ministry into the church and a service to our city and nation.
“We are called to live with our hearts towards heaven and hands towards humanity.”

- Support churches leaders to discipling their people to respond to injustice as part of our lives honouring the Great Commandment and the Great Commission
- Enable us to work into the areas of Early Life, Education and Employment as we believe that God cares for the poor and vulnerable and longs to see cycles of generational poverty broken
