Acts of Service this Festive Season
WITH YOUR FAMILY
If we’re honest, as human beings, we are not born with a desire to serve others. All of us are born with a selfish desire to serve ourselves. It takes time, effort and many, many opportunities to train young people (and adults too!) to think about others before ourselves. And, that it really is more blessed to give than receive. One way we do this is by modelling what it looks like to serve others.
We have put together a family-friendly activity which you can download and print to encourage and facilitate a season of “Acts of Service” in your home. There are opportunities for kids to serve their parents, parents to serve their kids and families to serve their neighbours. Print out the page, cut it up and each take a turn to pull out a suggestion every day.
WITH YOUR COMMUNITY
There are many ways you can serve others this festive season. A simple google of “Christmas Volunteer opportunities in Cape Town” will serve up a range of ideas. We would like to point to one in particular: THE HOPE EXCHANGE in the CBD. The Hope Exchange is a beacon of hope for the homeless people of Cape Town who find themselves destitute.
“Not everyone has the blessing of a family or the privilege of a home. In their daily search for food and shelter they also live with the hope of finding purpose and a sustainable alternative to rebuild broken lives.”
Over the festive season they are aiming to serve 5000 meals over 27 days between 17 December 2019 to 12 January 2020.
You can volunteer your time to make this task possible. You will not only help a less fortunate person – you’ll put a smile on someone’s face, get the chance to connect with people and make new friends. We have so much to be thankful for. Share your appreciation by serving someone else. Bring your friends and family and make an event of it.
They can only accommodate 15 people a day, so please book your day in advance. If you cannot make it for some reason, please cancel to give someone else the opportunity to come.
