JOB JOURNEY
employment
Young people in South Africa face vulnerabilities such as income poverty, low educational outcomes, poor housing, unreliable transport, poor health, limited social networks, and restricted access to social grants.
At least 40% of young people leave school before completing matric and many entering the job market do not have the necessary educational credentials and skills, lacking the ability to navigate complex social structures to access employment.
Many young people are in the NEET group – Not in Education, Employment, or Training – and may face long-term struggles in society and the economy. With over 3 million NEET youth aged 15 to 24, addressing their barriers to employment is urgently needed.
